What happens when you don’t service your machines at recommended intervals?

Have you ever considered how not servicing your machines impacts the longevity of the parts?

In this instance, we’re looking at a hydrostatic pump from an RTV, which has a failed motor. Due to contamination in the oil and its degradation, the internal components have been subjected to poor lubrication, which has caused significant wear – something that wouldn’t have occurred if the machine had been serviced at the recommended intervals and topped up with Kubota oil. The Kubota transmission oil is formulated to keep these hydrostatic transmissions in optimal condition, despite the enormous amount of force being put on them. This shows the importance of using the correct oil, designed for your specific machine.

Using this example, the cost of replacing the pictured parts only would be in the region of £775+vat, excluding labour costs. This situation would also have resulted in many additional components being damaged and require a large transmission repair and many hours of labour. If the RTV was serviced at recommended intervals – the cost would be about £130+vat, for the transmission oil and filter. This highlights the significant difference and costs incurred between good regular and poor infrequent maintenance, and how this impacts the life-cycle of your machine.
